British Library: Fantasy Realms of Imagination

Our first screen-printed zine is included in an exhibition by the British Library called Fantasy: Realms of Imagination. 1001 Fantasy Pop Nights, a three-color glow-in-the-dark screen printed zine from 2017, is displayed alongside a set of illustrations of 1001 Arabian Nights commissioned by the Shah of Iran in the 19th century, and a manuscript of Sindbad, which was produced in India in the 16th century. We are honored to have our work contextualized this way and find it both strange and remarkable. We aren’t sure that our work will survive as long as the companion publications in the museum-style display, but the possibility that 500 years in the future, someone is trying to understand the context and cultural conditions that allowed our publication to be produced is pretty fantastic. For us, only in the realms of imagination.

Big thanks to curator Daniel Lowe, who has supported our project for many years, and to Rachel Foss for curating our work in such an exciting way.

This zine was a collaboration between Sarah Al Afifi, Latif Al-Kuwari, Nathan Ross Davis, Sarah Elawad, Reham Mohamed.
